While Harvesters ministry aims to resource church planting and revitalization projects, we recognize that more often than not, thriving churches are those whose leaders and members take the time to be revitalized themselves.  

We want you to know, we care deeply for you, and the lives your ministry touches every day and we realize that one of the best ways to keep churches from ever getting to a place of being in dire need of revitalization, is to keep healthy churches healthy by encouraging pastors and leaders with principles from God’s word that bring revitalization and prevent burnout and decline.  

Today we introduce the first in an ongoing series of articles designed to serve as Revitalization For You.  We pray it encourages, strengthens, and revitalizes you, as you continue to build the Kingdom of God right where you are, and support the expansion of that Kingdom through support for Harvesters ministry! 

The Power of Pause

For forty days after the resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples and gave them “many convincing proofs” that He was alive (Acts 1:3). Their faith was not built on speculation or rumor. It was grounded in personal encounter with the risen Lord.  Soon, those same disciples would become leaders of a movement that would transform cities, cultures, and generations, a true revitalization.

Yet before that mission began, Jesus gave them an instruction that may have seemed surprising: WAIT!

In Acts 1:4, Jesus commanded His followers not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for “the promise of the Father.”

At first glance, this seems counterintuitive. The disciples had spent three years with Jesus. They had witnessed miracles, heard His teaching, and experienced the reality of the resurrection. One might assume they were ready to immediately launch into their mission.

But Jesus knew something essential: calling without power leads to frustration. Before the church could move outward, it needed to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.

The waiting season was not wasted time. It was preparation. Throughout Scripture, waiting is often the place where God aligns our hearts with His purposes. Waiting deepens faith, builds unity, and cultivates dependence on the Spirit. In the kingdom of God, preparation frequently precedes expansion.

This principle remains just as true today—especially when it comes to the work of church planting and church revitalization.

Healthy churches are rarely the result of rushed strategies or quick solutions. They grow out of prayerful dependence on the Spirit and patient obedience to God’s timing. 

Revitalized churches are those who know how to wait on the Lord’s presence and timing; receiving His times of refreshing (Acts 3:19-20), and then launching out into the next phase of ministry from a place of strength, rather than running on fumes.  

Today, we encourage you to pause in His presence.  Be refreshed and revitalized by Him.  Let Him lead you into the next phase of ministry from a place of strength and vitality; the place of pausing in His presence.
